If you thought it couldn’t get any crazier, the media has uncovered more old text messages from Darializa Avila Chevalier, the democratic socialist who just won her New York City House primary. Voters in her district apparently overlooked the fact that she supports communism and hates America, and if you want more proof of that, well, check out this.
According to a terrifically thorough report by CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski, Chevalier previously made “sympathetic references” to a variety of communist figures, like Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin, the despotic early rulers of the Soviet Union whose policies killed millions. She also retweeted favorable remarks about Jo Chi Minh, Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, who are also communist figures. She retweeted an account lamenting that people won’t meekly submit to socialism because, unfortunately, people like having a choice in what kind of soup they get to eat. In another post, she made clear that she generally sympathizes with the Bolsheviks, the revolutionary communist party that seized power in Russia and murdered the czar and his family.
Mmmhm.
Sorry, Darializa, people do in fact want more choice and control over how they live their lives, and it’s markets and liberty that allow for more choices. In free economies, grocery stores are stocked with all kinds of products for different tastes. In authoritarian communist societies, millions starve while waiting in lines for stale bread.
Chevalier expressed these views in 2020-2022. That’s five years ago. It’s not from some distant adolescent period and she’s since changed her mind. She is exactly what she appears to be: a radical pro-communist organizer who also sympathizes with Hamas terrorists, for what it’s worth, and prefers the Soviet system to the American system.
I’m getting sick of having to point this out, but she is so obviously pathologically unfit for office that it’s a stain on the democratic system that she was somehow elected. And note precisely who elected her to office (hint: it’s not actually working class and black people, despite what Ta-Nehisi Coates would have you believe).
Actually Darializa’s opponent did better with black, Hispanic, and low-income voters. She won wealthy whites. Of course. That’s the constituency for communism: people who spent way too much time in graduate school. Working people don’t believe communism is a good idea, and they’re correct.
Unfortunately, Chevalier is just the beginning. We will have to contend with a lot more of this idiocy in the future. For instance, here’s a would-be Colorado congressional candidate, Melat Kiros, who’s clearly following in Chevalier’s footsteps and asserting that 9/11 was inevitable because of America’s hubris.
In response, the Republican Party is tweaking its own message to focus on the radicalism of their new opponents. Here was Trump White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, calling the elections a choice between “communism and common sense.”
Those are not exaggerations. Democrats who literally support communism are trying to get themselves elected to Congress.
