"The Bachelor" Producer Finally Addresses Peter Weber Romance Rumors

Peter Weber has less than rosy thoughts about one part of his reality TV experience.

The Bachelor season 24 leading man recently shared his perspective on former producer Julie LaPlaca’s forthcoming book The Love Producer, in which she gets candid about an apparent relationship with Weber while they filmed his season.

“I’ve moved on from this period of my life and I’m ultimately responsible for my choices,” Weber commented on an Instagram post by fellow Bachelor alum Nick Viall’s podcast The Viall Files about the book. “What I’ll say is this; I asked Julie on multiple occasions to please keep private, intimate details, private. This wasn’t about a tv show anymore.”

Indicating he doesn’t know exactly what La Placa details in the book, the 34-year-old alluded to an apparent conversation involving Hannah Ann Sluss, who he’d proposed to at the end of his season before their breakup in January 2020.

“Curious though if she mentions in the book about my last one on one with Hannah Ann, and how in the middle of our dinner conversation during one on one producer interviews, Julie tells me ‘you will look like the biggest idiot in the world to America if you give her your rose,’” Weber alleged. “I find it wrong to mess with a person’s headspace like that and then go on to write a book about them.”

Beyond LaPlaca, Weber slammed former Bachelor host Chris Harrison for his involvement writing the book’s foreword, adding, “The fact that Chris endorsed this makes me sick.”

E! News has reached out to reps for Harrison and LaPlaca but hasn't received a comment.

However, a source with knowledge told E! News, “This is two men ganging up to take down a woman who is reclaiming her own life. Everything Nick and Peter are reacting to is secondhand: a clip, a press release, an assumption about what's in the book. Neither of them actually knows what the book says, because neither of them has read it.”

“Peter is one part of a much larger story,” the source continued, “a deeply personal memoir about a woman taking back control of her life while navigating outside influences on her career, romance, and desires.”

Rumors about Weber’s relationship with a producer began not long after his season began airing in early 2020, leading ABC's then-senior vice president of alternative series, specials and late-night programming Rob Mills to address the speculation.

“Well, I hate to get in the way of a good rumor, so I’m not going to confirm or deny about whether he ends up with a producer!” he told Entertainment Tonight in 2020. “I don’t know how we’d ever top that though! But, it is crazy.”

As for LaPlaca, she denied the rumors at the time, confirming they had spent New Year’s Eve together, but noted it was as part of the Bachelor promotional tour.

“Yes that was @pilot_pete in the tan jacket, no we didn’t kiss at midnight,” she wrote on Instagram in March 2020, alongside a photo of the two from New Year’s Eve. “But whoever ends up as his copilot for life is one lucky lady, because this guy has a heart of gold.”

And nearly seven years later, she’s detailing the nature of their relationship in her book, saying she and Weber were “real close” friends while filming The Bachelor.

“That was a really intense, sort of spiral of things with him,” she shared with Entertainment Weekly in April. “It can impact you on an emotional level.”

She also confessed that Weber was “not happy about” the details of their relationship that she included in her book, noting that after his season aired she “dealt with a lot of hurt.” Especially when he split from Sluss and began dating fifth-place finisher Kelley Flanagan on and off until in 2023.

“I don't think Kelley wanted him to talk to me. That was my understanding, so we lost contact,” LaPlaca alleged. “We had become so close. For nine months, I spent every day with him. There was a grief period there for many reasons. Then once they broke up, we reconnected and were friends and stayed in touch here and there and had a few moments.”
