Tinubu urges Kwali residents to protect road infrastructure

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged residents of Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji communities in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to take ownership of the newly commissioned Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji Road, describing the infrastructure as a shared asset that must be protected for future generations.

Represented by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President said the responsibility for preserving the road now rested with the communities after government had fulfilled its obligation by delivering the project.

Tinubu, who cautioned residents against encroaching on the road corridor, urged them to keep drainage channels free of refuse and to promptly report any act of vandalism.

“Do not allow encroachment on the rights of way. Keep the drains clear of filth and report any attempt to vandalise any section of this road. Use it to grow your farms, use it to grow your businesses and your children’s future will be assured. Government has done its part. The next part now belongs to you, the people,” he said.

Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing and maintaining public infrastructure, declaring that the practice of abandoning government projects had ended.

“The era of starting projects only to abandon them is over. We will fund, we will finish and we will maintain the infrastructure we are building. Every single naira of public funds must show up as value for the citizens.”

The President said the newly completed road would improve access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other economic opportunities for residents of the rural communities, while reducing post-harvest losses and boosting agricultural productivity.

Earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said the project was another fulfilment of President Tinubu’s directive that development should extend beyond Abuja city to satellite communities.

According to Wike, the road was awarded in November 2025 and completed in less than a year, demonstrating what could be achieved through political commitment and responsible contracting.

The minister commended the contractor for delivering the project within the agreed timeline and disclosed that the same firm would also complete the Gbazango (Arab Road) project in Kubwa scheduled for commissioning next month.

Wike recalled that President Tinubu had directed FCT ministers to consult communities before selecting projects; a process he said ensured that infrastructure reflected the priorities of residents rather than decisions made from government offices.

He noted that traditional rulers in Kwali had consistently requested the construction of the A2–Pai, Pai–Gomani and Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji road corridor, adding that all the promises made to the communities had now been fulfilled.

The minister also praised traditional rulers in the area for supporting contractors throughout the construction period, saying their commitment to community development contributed significantly to the timely completion of the project.
