
COTABATO CITY — Sarangani Gov. Rogelio Pacquiao has ordered the extension of the suspension of face-to-face classes at all levels, both public and private, across the province, as well as work arrangements in the provincial government from July 1 to July 15 due to earthquake aftershocks.
“This is due to the continuing aftershocks, recurring seismic activities, and the need for further structural inspections and safety assessments of government buildings and educational facilities,” Pacquiao stated in Executive Order No. 39 dated June 30.

On June 26, a magnitude 6.6 earthquake jolted Sarangani and neighboring areas that “highlights the continuing seismic activity affecting the province” and necessitates further assessment, reassessment, validation, and certification of the structural integrity of government buildings, school facilities, and other public infrastructure by the appropriate authorities before the full resumption of regular government operations and face-to-face classes, the governor noted.
At 5:34 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, the PHIVOLCS reported a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that rocked General Santos City (GenSan) and Sarangani, with the epicenter located 13 kilometers west of Balut Island in Sarangani town in Davao Occidental.
