Amid the backlash over her joke referencing “Eat Bulaga” host Ryzza Mae Dizon, Kim Chiu seemingly shared fans’ call for mutual respect after entertainment insider Ogie Diaz recounted a past unwelcoming encounter with the “It’s Showtime” host.
Chiu has been on the receiving end of criticism after she blurted out a supposed insensitive joke about Dizon during an episode of “It’s Showtime,” which incidentally has the same time slot as its rival “Eat Bulaga.”
Among those who chimed in and gave their sentiments on the matter was Diaz, who was reminded of an incident that happened when he and Chiu had a “misunderstanding.”

“Grand finals yun ng ‘TNT’ (Tawag ng Tanghalan). Naka-formal sila. Tapos si Kim Chiu, nando’n sa hallway ng ABS-CBN, nagpipikto-pictorial sila,” Diaz narrated through his Showbiz Update vlog shared last Saturday, June 27. “Mga isang metro, nagkatinginan kami ni Kim Chiu. So akala ko, magha-hi or ano. Syempre meron kaming konting misunderstanding e.”

“So nung nagkatinginan kami, out of the blue, nasabi niya, ‘Buti naman pinapasok kayo.’ Yung mukha [niya], alanganin na nakangiti, alanganin na nakasimangot. Ang sabi ko, ‘Bakit, bawal ba?’” he recalled.
Diaz noted that while he was taken aback by Chiu’s remark at the time, he believed that the actress was just caught off guard by the encounter that she blurted out such.
“Nabibigla siya, na hindi siya aware sa mga words na lumalabas sa bibig niya,” he said. “Kaya ako talaga, iniintindi ko ‘yun.”
Relating it to Chiu’s “Ryzza Mae” joke, Diaz continued, “Nabigla lang din [siya]. For lack of words to say. Hindi naman niya mini-mean.”

‘Respect begets respect’
A day after the vlog was shared, fans of Chiu took to X to point out Diaz’s alleged “attacks” against the actress-TV host. Noticeably, Chiu reposted one of such posts on her X page.
“Kapalmuks ni OD na mag-expect na babatiin siya ni Kim eh puro paninira lang naman ginagawa niya sa kanya. Expect niya magiging chummy-chummy si Kim sa kanya?? The nerve. RESPECT BEGETS RESPECT. Eh ano ngayon kung 1992 ka nagstart?! Bakit ka rerespetuhin kung ‘di mo naman deserve,” the post read.

Chiu did not add personal comments on her repost. She further shared two more fan posts which were seemingly referring to the same issue.
“Matapang si Kimmy ngayon. So as a fan, whatever happens, maniniwala ako na kaya na niya lahat. We’ll just stay and have her back. We raised a strong woman indeed,” one of the posts stated.
“I say [deserve]! Pinasakay ka pa nga noon nung wala ka pang masakyan, kapalit noon paninira mo sa kanya, hindi lang napagbigyan gusto mong interview. ‘Yung galawan at pinagsasabi mo hindi karespe-respeto. Ikaw dapat mag-thank you sa kanya kasi gamit na gamit niyo, tapos trending ka pa dahil sa kanya,” another X user said.
Aiko Melendez weighs in
Meanwhile, amid the discussions on Chiu’s “Ryzza Mae” quip, netizens also seemed to have linked the issue to the recent reminder of Aiko Melendez about being kind.
“Never joke around about anyone’s physical appearance. Beauty has always been relative, what one person finds beautiful may be different for someone else. But one thing that never goes out of style is having a kind heart,” Melendez wrote via her Facebook page.

“Be the reason someone smiles today not the reason they lose confidence. Kindness will always be the most beautiful thing a person can wear,” she added, without making a mention of any names. /edv
