
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A 44-year-old man was hacked to death by an unidentified assailant following a brief chase before dawn Wednesday in Barangay 1, Talakag town in Bukidnon, police said.
The victim sustained severe hack wounds to the back of his head and both shoulders during the attack in Sitio Inangay at around 2:30 a.m.

In a statement, the Talakag Municipal Police Station (MPS) said a witness reported seeing the victim running from a local waiting shed with the suspect in pursuit. The witness recalled hearing the victim fall onto the concrete road, followed by the sound of the suspect repeatedly striking the victim.

Due to darkness, the witness could not identify either individual but immediately called for police assistance after finding the bloodied victim on the road while the suspect fled towards a grassy area, it added
Responding personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) rushed the victim to the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.
Police Capt. Lance Elpedio Figuracion, Talakag MPS officer-in-charge, said the motive for the killing remains unknown as investigators work to identify the assailant.
Bukidnon Police Provincial Director Col. Oliver Sotto Navales ordered a thorough investigation into the incident as he residents to remain vigilant.
