Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto lauded the National Police (Polri) for its significant contribution to the government’s food security agenda, citing its active role in advancing the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.
Speaking at a ceremony marking Polri’s 80th anniversary in Bogor District, West Java, on Wednesday, he credited the force for strengthening national food security.
“I would like to express my appreciation to the Indonesian National Police for actively participating in our food security efforts,” Prabowo remarked at a training facility of the Polri Mobile Brigade.
He acknowledged that the police had been involved in measures to boost food production, including initiatives aimed at developing the corn industry and building warehouses for food commodities in various regions nationwide.
The president went on to commend the institution for establishing numerous nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPGs) serving as kitchens under the MBG program.
“Polri has also actively participated in building more than one thousand nutrition fulfillment service units, or kitchens, for the MBG program. Without hesitation, I hereby acknowledge that the kitchens built by Polri are the best facilities,” he stated.
Prabowo added that the police-operated SPPGs had received recognition from international institutions following their assessments.
The head of state noted that Polri’s service extends beyond food security, highlighting its participation in expanding access to clean water, building bridges, and assisting communities affected by disasters across Indonesia.
Under the Prabowo administration, Indonesia has been pursuing a range of initiatives to bolster food security.
As of June 2026, the country has declared self-sufficiency in rice, table sugar, chilies, corn, shallots, chicken eggs, and chicken meat, with national rice stocks reaching 5.23 million tonnes.
Meanwhile, the MBG program has reached around 65 million schoolchildren, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children under five nationwide since its launch in January 2026, supported by roughly 30,000 SPPGs. The initiative was also designed to stimulate local economies.
