MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Imee Marcos is allegedly sowing hatred among Filipinos and “turning a blind eye” to the government’s work, Palace press officer Claire Castro said on Wednesday in response to the senator’s claim that the government lacks concern for farmers and fisherfolk.
The senator joined members of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) during their rally on Tuesday evening at the People Power Monument in Edsa, where she again delivered sharp criticisms against her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“Why do we say that his statements are baseless? Because she is fueling anger toward our fellow Filipino farmers and fisherfolk by claiming that the government is providing them with no assistance at all,” said Castro at a Palace briefing.

“We do not know whether Senator Imee is blind, is choosing to ignore the facts, or is simply turning a blind eye to the truth so she can use it to criticize this government,” the Palace official added.
She then presented printouts of news articles on government projects and initiatives for farmers and fisherfolk, including livelihood grants for fisherfolk in Pangasinan and food assistance for 703 farmers and fisherfolk in Camiguin.
“What’s even more unfortunate are the people listening to her, because without critical thinking or careful examination, they will remain ignorant of the truth,” Castro said.
In her speech during Tuesday evening’s rally, Sen. Marcos said: “The government is despicable—callous and indifferent to the hardships of our farmers and fisherfolk, the very sectors that feed us yet can barely feed themselves. Their families are going hungry, and the government simply doesn’t care.”

“A sleeping government, drunk on power. They would rather travel and mingle with people in Canada and with foreigners in America while Filipinos suffer from unaffordable fuel prices, skyrocketing food costs, and an extremely difficult life,” she also said, referring to Marcos’ four-day official visit to Canada this week. /mr
