Nature Trust Malta has released its first four rehabilitated sea turtles of 2026 back into the wild at Ġnejna Bay.
The turtles had spent around eight months in rehabilitation after being accidentally caught by fishing gear. All four had swallowed fishing hooks, while some had also become tangled in fishing lines and other debris.
Following months of treatment and care, the turtles were successfully returned to the Mediterranean during Nature Trust Malta’s first turtle release of the year.
The organisation continues to rescue, rehabilitate and release injured sea turtles found around the Maltese Islands, giving them a second chance to survive in the wild.
