Kathmandu. A traffic police officer has been penalized for riding a motorcycle on a footpath after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office said the officer was punished in accordance with traffic laws, stressing that no individual, including law enforcement personnel, is above the rules.

According to the office, the officer was penalized for careless driving after being seen operating a motorcycle on a pedestrian footpath in Kathmandu.

The incident drew criticism online, with social media users questioning why a traffic police officer responsible for enforcing road regulations was violating them himself.

Following the circulation of the video, the traffic police took disciplinary action against the officer and emphasized that traffic laws apply equally to everyone.
