Household income and spending increased says statistics agency

Italy's tax burden stood at 37.6% in

the first quarter of 2026, 0.3 of a percentage point higher than

in the same period of last year, ISTAT said on Wednesday.

The national statistics agency said households' gross disposable

income increased by 1.6% over the previous quarter in nominal

terms, while their final consumption expenditure grew by 1.4%.

It said households' real gross disposable income increased by

0.8% with respect to the last quarter of 2025.

Istat said the household saving rate was 8.0%, 0.2 of a

percentage points lower than in the last three months of 2025.

It said the general government's net borrowing over GDP stood at

-7.8%, compared to -8.4% in the same quarter of 2025.
