Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry said all sectors are prepared for the nationwide rollout of the mandatory 50 percent biodiesel blend (B50), which President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to launch in July.
“All sectors are fully prepared to implement B50 ahead of its official launch by the president,” ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia told ANTARA on Wednesday.
She said the government plans to implement B50 simultaneously across all sectors after completing trials on ships, trains, excavators, agricultural machinery and other vehicles.
Anggia said the mandate will be implemented nationwide. “All of Indonesia is ready. Preparations have been completed,” she said.
Prabowo earlier confirmed B50 would be introduced in July 2026 to strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on imported fuel.
“We estimate Indonesia can achieve energy self-sufficiency within three to four years. We do not want to rely on fuel and energy imports,” he said during the 17th National Farmers and Fishers Week in Gorontalo on June 24.
The president said strengthening energy security has become more urgent as global oil supply chains face disruptions linked to security risks and shipping constraints around the Strait of Hormuz.
Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia echoed the policy a day later, describing B50 as a key measure to reduce diesel imports.
“With B50, about 300,000 barrels per day of diesel demand will be replaced by domestically supplied biodiesel,” he said in Jakarta.
The minister has also issued a decree allowing fuel suppliers to distribute remaining B40 stocks until Sept. 30, 2026, provided they comply with applicable quality standards.
