MANILA, Philippines — Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island Region emitted ash on Wednesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
According to Phivolcs’ camera footage, the ash emission from the summit crater occurred between 1:41 p.m. and 2:38 p.m.
“This event generated grayish plumes that rose 750 meters above the crater before drifting north-northwest, as captured by the IP camera at Kanlaon Volcano Observatory-Canlaon City,” Phivolcs said in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, the bureau’s 24-hour monitoring stated that the volcano recorded 35 volcanic earthquakes.
It also released 4,146 tons of sulfur dioxide on Tuesday, which was slightly more than the 3,571 tons emitted on Monday.
The volcano also generated a 100-meter plume from the crater, which drifted southeastward and generally eastward.

With the volcano’s status of Alert Level 2, which signifies increased unrest, Phivolcs still prohibited entry into the four-kilometer radius of the permanent danger zone, and flying any aircraft close to the volcano.
It also reminded nearby residents of possible hazards such as sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and precursory magmatic activity. /apl
