MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said he believes the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) is mistaken in claiming that there is “selective justice” under his administration.
The religious sect held rallies on Tuesday and Wednesday to oppose what it described as the application of “selective justice” and the “distortion of the law,” and to support fellow INC member, Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, in his looming non-bailable plunder case.
“I believe they’re wrong,” Marcos told reporters in a brief media interview before leaving for a four-day official visit to Vancouver, Canada.

Thousands of rallygoers, who identified themselves as members of the INC, gathered at the People Power Monument along Edsa in Quezon City and at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila early Tuesday.
In a television interview, INC spokesperson Bro. Edwil Zabala said that even if Marcoleta is imprisoned, the group will continue demanding justice for “fellow Filipinos who have been robbed.”

This pronouncement comes as Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla on Monday said that the Office of the Ombudsman was set to file a non-bailable plunder case against Marcoleta before the Sandiganbayan in connection with the P75 million in campaign donations case.

At a briefing on the same day, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro brushed off the “selective justice” claim of the INC.
“At present, there is no selective justice under the administration of President Marcos Jr. In fact, even friends and allies have been jailed or detained first, and are now facing plunder and graft cases,” she said.

“So, we could probably say it is selective justice if influence, violence or intimidation are used just so that an ally will not be charged. That is what selective justice is,” she added. /apl
