Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Team will compete in 32 sports at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan next September, according to the Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian Contingent for the 2026 Asian Games, Todotua Pasaribu.
The confirmation followed final discussions with several stakeholders, including sports administrators, he stated.
"We have also prepared several domestic programs to help athletes get ready, a kind of Road to the 2026 Asian Games program," he remarked during a press conference at the Ministry of Youth and Sports office in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He further explained that the current contingent comprises 411 athletes, with the potential to increase to around 450, and 150 officials will be involved, bringing the total contingent to around 600 members.
The 32 sports include rock climbing, athletics, and aquatics.
So far, the CdM Team has held initial meetings with officials from all participating sports to coordinate preparations for Asia's largest multi-sport event.
Pasaribu said intensive coordination with all sports will continue in the lead-up to the team's departure to Japan.
He mentioned that follow-up meetings will focus on monitoring athletes' preparations while addressing the needs of each sport.
According to him, the program currently being prepared for the 2026 Asian Games focuses on maximizing domestic resources
The program is also expected to boost athletes' morale and strengthen support for the official team, from the preparation period in Indonesia, departure to Japan, and through the games in Aichi-Nagoya in September.
"This will also boost the athletes' spirit and support for the officials," he added.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports previously reallocated its budget to support the deployment of Indonesia's contingent to the Asian Games.
Through the reallocation, the government secured Rp61 billion (US$3.3 million), which was allocated to the CdM team, to fund the participation of Indonesian athletes in the Games.
