Kate Gosselin Addresses Speculation About Son Collin’s Memoir Claims
Collin Gosselin is detailing the alleged abuse he was subjected to by mom Kate Gosselin.
Weeks after sharing he was releasing his memoir In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, he alleged that his mother used to seek divine intervention to stop herself from abusing him.
“Never forget that my mom would write in her diary how she had to ‘pray to God to stop hitting me,’” Collin wrote in a since-expired Instagram Story. “(This was while I was 2 years old by the way.)”
And the 22-year-old noted, “This is why using my voice to put these things in the light is so important.”
For her part, Kate has continued to shut down her son’s allegations on her own social media, with the 51-year-old recently confirming she has blocked comments about it on her own social media.
“This page is about my real life,” Kate wrote in the comments section of a June 30 TikTok, “and it’s all about kindness, love, honesty and definitely not for made up accusation discussion!”
The former reality star—mom to 25-year-old twins Mady and Cara as well as Collin’s fellow sextuplets Leah, Alexis, Joel, Hannah and Aaden with ex Jon Gosselin—went on to like comments suggesting Collin was lying about the abuse, and later explained why she hadn’t pursued legal action for defamation.
“The rules are different for ppl in the public eye,” she explained in a separate comment. “I consulted a high power LA attorney (you've definitely heard of him) years ago when other ppl were putting crazy stuff out there and that's what he said. The courts don't honor it if you're in the public eye.”
Nodding to her son’s ongoing allegations, she admitted, “Malice is one of the hardest things to prove.”
While Kate has not shared a formal statement on Collin’s upcoming memoir—which he has said “is about truth, survival, resilience and finding my voice after years of being silenced”—she alleged he had “multiple psychiatric diagnoses” a year after he first came forward with abuse allegations in 2022.

“I have never wanted to have to do this, but I feel I have been backed into a corner and left with no choice,” Kate wrote in a statement in July 2023. “My son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years. For the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters and for his own well-being, he was placed in a facility following years of outpatient treatment which proved insufficient for his needs.”
At the time, she also directly addressed his allegations against her.
“Collin's distorted perception of reality,” she said at the time, “is one of the many issues that he has always struggled with.”
“Unfortunately, I believe Collin remains a very troubled young man who continues to need a lot of help," Kate noted. "His brothers and sisters and I have not been directly involved in his life due to his history of unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards us.”
Collin, meanwhile, has said his time in psychiatric treatment was a detriment to his mental health and has denied his mom’s allegations about his behavior.
