The true-crime limited series stars Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen as Patsy and John Ramsey
After Paramount+ shelved The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey last year, Netflix has now acquired the true-crime series and it will premiere later this winter. The series will “explore how the murder of the six-year-old captivated and divided the nation,” per Tudum. Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen are set to star as JonBenét’s parents, Patsy and John Ramsey.
The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey will follow several perspectives, including the Ramseys’, after their daughter is tragically murdered on Christmas night in 1996. Emily Mitchell will play JonBenét, and Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, and Clifton Collins Jr. will appear as detectives from the Boulder Police Department.
Paramount+ greenlit the true-crime series in 2024 under the original title Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey. Per the Hollywood Reporter, production wrapped in early 2025, however, following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount+, The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey was shelved. Like Netflix’s Monster anthology series, the series would originally follow a similar format and dive into a different true-crime case each season.
This isn’t the first time Netflix has homed in on the tragedy of JonBenét Ramsey; in 2024, the streaming platform released the three-episode docuseries Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey?.
