Prime Video's collection of old and new movies and TV shows is second to none, and it's constantly growing and evolving. Add to that a solid mix of interesting, genre-spanning original content that ranges from anime to blockbuster comedies to live sports, and the platform proves it really does have something for everyone.
On July 1, the month begins with the highly anticipated arrival of Elle, the Legally Blonde prequel that shows what high school was like for Elle Woods. Lexi Minetree assumes the role that Reese Witherspoon originated in the films. Also arriving on the platform this month is the crime comedy Ride or Die, a series about two best friends (Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer) whose bond is shaken when one learns the other is an assassin. Also out this month are the new true crime docuseries Murder 101 and a new season of Batman: Caped Crusader, and Prime Video is the new streaming home of Gilmore Girls, too.
Here's a look at what we're most excited for on Prime Video this July.
July 1
Elle
Lexi Minetree stars as a young Elle Woods in the Legally Blonde prequel series Elle, arriving on July 1. The series is produced by Reese Witherspoon, the originator of the role, who helped develop the project with her Hello Sunshine production company. She stated that she was inspired by the success of Netflix's Wednesday series, featuring the popular character in a high school setting. Elle takes place six years before the events of the first Legally Blonde film and is set at Woods' Seattle high school, well before she has her sights on Harvard.
Gilmore Girls (2000-2007)
Gilmore Girls was a mainstay on Netflix for years, but the show was removed from that platform in June and has found a new home on Prime Video. You can now catch all seven seasons of the series, starring Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as the titular mother-daughter duo, and all their quirky neighbors in Stars Hollow, Connecticut, as of July 1.
July 7
The Ghost in the Shell
Shirow Masamune's legendary manga, Ghost in the Shell, was released in 1989 and has since been adapted for the screen multiple times as an animated series, multiple animated films, a live-action movie starring Scarlett Johansson and more. The story is now being adapted once again for a new Prime Video original anime series The Ghost in the Shell, from animation studio Science SARU who are known for shows like Dandadan and the films Inu-Oh and The Colors Within. The new series arrives on July 7.
July 13
Murder 101
If you're a true crime fan, the three-episode series Murder 101 will scratch that itch for you when it arrives this July. Based on the successful true crime podcast of the same name, the series centers on a high school sociology class and its teacher, Alex Campbell, as they investigate a series of unsolved killings from decades earlier. What started as a classroom project eventually turned into a real investigation as these students uncovered new leads and helped bring closure to the victims. All three episodes of the series will be available on Prime Video on July 13.
July 15
Ride or Die
We've already seen the movie where the husband or wife was a secret assassin dealing with the consequences of their old jobs (Nobody, Back in Action, The Family Plan). But the new Prime Video series Ride or Die asks the question, what if your best friend was an assassin and you never knew? In the action comedy series, Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham star as besties Deb and Judith, whose lives get turned upside down when Deb discovers that Judith kills people, like, as her job. And now some very bad people are looking for both of them. All eight episodes arrive on July 15.
July 17
Young Farts Trailer Parts
In the new docuseries Young Farts Trailer Parts, Canadian brothers Jagger and Dawson Glowatsky do their best to build an empire by buying beat-up RVs, cashing in on salvaged treasures and turning junk into a profitable business. The comedic reality series showcases the two brothers who originally got their start on TikTok and became viral sensations for their Jackass-like antics and schemes.
July 31
Batman: Caped Crusader (Season 2)
Produced by J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm, Batman: Caped Crusader is an animated show set in the 1940s and offers a stylized noir take on Batman's story. The second season of the series arrives on July 31 and features the voices of Hamish Linklater as Batman, and this season promises plenty of Batman's old foes, including the Joker, Edward Nygma/Riddler, Scarecrow and a gender-swapped version of Mad Hatter.
Date TBD
The Devil's Mouth
The Devil's Mouth is a shark thriller starring Kathryn Newton, Gavin Casalegno and Lana Condor as college friends who take a trip to Thailand. But tension and terror arise when they get trapped in an underwater cave system with a bull shark. Should have just gotten Eurail passes! (Although that could always end up in more of a Hostel situation. College travelers really aren't safe anywhere, huh?)
The film arrives on Prime Video this month, although the streamer hasn't confirmed a release date yet.
