MANILA, Philippines — The Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD) is now on red alert status for the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC)-led rally at the Liwasang Bonifacio on Thursday, July 2.
“This is part of the intensified preparation by the local government to ensure the swift response to any possible incident or emergency that could occur,” the Manila CDRRMD said in an advisory late Wednesday night.

The INC-led rally began on Tuesday at the area of the People Power Monument in Quezon City, reaching a peak of about 15,000 participants, according to the police.
The Quezon City government allowed the INC to stage a rally on Wednesday but then denied them the permit on Thursday, citing the disruption to the traffic flow along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue and White Plains Avenue.
The INC expected 100,000 participants for its protest-action, according to the July 1 permit granted by the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety.
Following the denial of the permit for July 2, the religious sect transferred to the Liwasang Bonifacio, a freedom park where public assemblies are free to be conducted without a local government permit, to continue with the third day of their protest on Thursday.
