The four-time Emmy Award nominee, best known for starring in the Lethal Weapon franchise, has told Today and People magazine that he was diagnosed with the progressive, memory destroying disease three years ago.
"I'm still not accepting in my mind all parts of it," he told People magazine.
"There are the moments that you keep remembering that validate the fact that you can remember stuff. And there are moments I'll never forget,"
he said.
The star's daughter, Mandisa, told People, her dad was ready to reveal his diagnosis and share what it was like to face the disease. It was important to him to be of service, she said.
Mr Glover added, "I don't feel like it's the end of my life".
"There's work to do."
And speaking to Today on NBC, he said why he decided to publicly share his diagnosis now.
"I'm sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing,"
Mr Glover said.
More than 7 million people over the age of 65 in the United States are currently living with Alzheimer's, the most common form of dementia.
In 2026, there are an estimated 446,500 Australians living with dementia, according to Dementia Australia.
Alzheimer's is a degenerative brain disease and the most common cause of dementia, according to the Alzheimer's Association.
It causes a slow decline in memory, thinking and reasoning skills.
Mr Glover's acting career across television and film has lasted over forty years, and includes the critically acclaimed drama The Color Purple in 1985.
But he rose to fame in the late 1980s as the detective Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon franchise, alongside Mel Gibson.
Working with Gibson "was great," he told People magazine.
Mr Glover has been nominated four times for a Primetime Emmy Award, including in 1988 for the TV drama Mandela, where he starred as Nelson Mandela.
He was presented with an honorary Oscar in 2022 in recognition of his humanitarian work.
The actor served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program from 1998 to 2004.
It focuses on poverty, disease and economic development in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
