The Kebbi State Government has distributed 110 truckloads of fertiliser and 100 tonnes of improved seed varieties to farmers free of charge to support the 2026 wet season farming.
Speaking at the flag-off of the distribution in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Nasir Idris said the initiative was part of his administration’s Kaura Agricultural Development Agenda (KADAGE) aimed at boosting food production.
He said the intervention became necessary due to the impact of climate change on agricultural production in the state.
“My administration is providing these farm inputs free of charge to increase food production and address the challenges climate change poses to agriculture,” the governor said.
Idris said a committee comprising members of the State House of Assembly, commissioners, traditional rulers and religious leaders would oversee the distribution across the state’s 3,325 polling units to ensure transparency.
He warned beneficiaries against selling the inputs, directing security agencies to arrest anyone caught diverting or selling the fertiliser and seeds.
“These items are meant for farmers. Anyone found selling them will be arrested and prosecuted,” he said.
The governor also thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting Kebbi’s agricultural sector, saying the assistance had strengthened the state’s efforts to improve food production.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Muazu, said the free distribution of fertiliser and improved seeds was designed to increase agricultural output during the 2026 wet season.
He urged farmers to make proper use of the inputs to achieve higher yields and contribute to food security in the state.
