Access Bank UK has disclosed plans to leverage this year’s Polo Day billed to hold July 4, 2026 in Windsor to rally global support for less privileged children.
In a recent statement, the Bank disclosed that the event will witness leading figures from the world of polo, business, philanthropy and royalty in a sporting event dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for vulnerable children.
“What sets the Polo Day apart is how it converts visibility into impact. The event brings together a network of influence and directs it towards practical outcomes, funding classrooms, supporting learning programmes, and enabling children to stay in school,” the statement reads.
According to the statement, the goal for this year’s edition is to extend UNICEF reach, raising more support and improving the scale and quality of interventions.
“At its core, the initiative is driven by a simple idea: that education should be accessible, regardless of circumstance,” the statement reads.
It added that the 2026 edition will feature His Royal Highness, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour and present the prestigious Emir’s Cup, reinforcing Nigeria’s rich polo heritage and the sport’s tradition of promoting social development.
Speaking ahead of the event, Jamie Simmonds, Managing Director of The Access Bank UK, said the Polo Day demonstrates how sport and corporate partnerships can create lasting social impact.
“This event is about using our platform to create access where it is most needed. By bringing together the right partners and supporters, we are able to deliver outcomes that can make a real difference in the lives of many children,” he said.
Kane’s brace rescues England against Congo DR
England produced a late comeback as they fought back from an early goal down to beat DR Congo 2-1 in the 2026 World Cup round of 32 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday, July 1.
Thomas Tuchel’s side were staring at a shock exit but Harry Kane stepped up with a second-half brace in the closing stages to set up a meeting with co-hosts Mexico in the round of 16.
DR Congo scored through Brian Cipenga seven minutes into the first World Cup knockout game in their history.
However, after heading in substitute Anthony Gordon’s cross to bring England level with a quarter of an hour remaining, Kane rifled home a stunning 86th-minute winner to complete the comeback.
The double takes Kane above Brazil legend Pele on 13 goals at World Cups and ensures England will face Mexico at the Azteca Stadium in the last 16, kicking off at 1am (BST) on Monday.
England were made to work hard for the victory, with Cipenga capitalising on defensive disarray to beat Jordan Pickford at his near post for the shock opener before DR Congo goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi made a string of saves to keep England at bay at the other end.
