MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Raffy Tulfo criticized on Thursday a police officer who did not help a rider who was blocked by protesters in the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC)-led rally along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa).
On July 1, a surprise protest began at the Edsa People Power Monument in support of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta who may soon face plunder charges.
A viral video from that day circulated in which a motorcycle taxi rider claimed that rallyists took his keys, and he was subsequently cursed out and threatened by other protesters. A policeman was observed standing next to him and not intervening.

“Yung pulis niyo doon, sa halip na awatin yung mga nanghaharas na ralyista doon sa rider, ang rider pa ang pinagalitan. Bakit ganon? Hindi ba sila tinuturuan?” Tulfo questioned.

He then suggested that the involved police officer be retrained.
“I want that police officer identified, and put him in the retraining program. He’s being punished. That’s wrong… I want that police officer identified, and put him in the retraining program,” the senator added.

In response, Philippine National Police Regional Legal Office Chief PCol. Ehdel Pereira assured that the police in question and the rallyist who made death threats will be investigated.
“We are investigating the identity of the police officer and the identity of the person who made the threat. We are investigating,” Pereira said. /mr
