China can help Ukraine recover from war and advance industry, ambassador says

China can provide “all-round” support for Ukraine’s post-war industrial recovery, Beijing’s envoy to Kyiv said while reaffirming his country’s commitment to pushing for a ceasefire and a political settlement for a conflict in its fifth year.

The remarks were made by China’s ambassador to Ukraine, Ma Shengkun, in an article published by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Tuesday, marking the 15th anniversary of the start of the China-Ukraine strategic partnership.

Ma said China’s history of industrial transformation and poverty alleviation could provide a solid foundation and momentum to strengthen cooperation and stabilise bilateral ties.

“China has a complete industrial system, mature infrastructure technologies, a vast consumer market and abundant development experience, and is able to provide all-round support for Ukraine in achieving industrial recovery and upgrading,” Ma wrote.

He said China’s continuous growth offered tangible opportunities for Ukraine’s post-war revival through expanded international market access and diverse cooperation channels. The two countries had achieved fruitful results in fields including agricultural trade, new energy, infrastructure and education, with even broader prospects expected for the future, he said.

To ensure the long-term development of bilateral relations, Ma urged a departure from outdated historical narratives suggesting that the rise of a major power inevitably led to hegemonic expansion.

He argued that this kind of logic stemmed from Western colonial history and did not apply to China, which Ma said was committed to peaceful development and upholding the international order.
