Jakarta (ANTARA) -
Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono stated that the Indonesia–Belarus business forum, held a few days earlier, explored economic cooperation opportunities worth an estimated US$500 million.
Speaking at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, Sugiono said the meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko was a follow-up to
President Prabowo's visit to Belarus on July 15, 2025, which resulted in a commitment to expand bilateral cooperation.
"The report said the figure reached US$500 million, and I think both presidents agreed that the existing figures, both in trade and investment, should be further increased to promote the development of both countries," the Minister noted, referring to the results of the business forum held on Tuesday (June 30).
According to Sugiono, the meeting between Prabowo and Lukashenko on Thursday is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
One of the key supporting factors is the Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA), considering that Belarus is a member of the EAEU and has ratified the agreement.
In this regard, the two countries also launched a bilateral relations roadmap covering various strategic sectors.
"This is evidence that our bilateral relations are entering a new and more intensive phase. Today we will launch a bilateral relations roadmap in various sectors between Indonesia and Belarus," Sugiono remarked.
Several priority areas of cooperation between the two countries include food security and energy. The discussions also covered a range of agricultural commodities, including raw materials for fertilizer production.
The visit marked the second visit of President Lukashenko's visit to Indonesia, following his first in 2013.
According to the Minister, President Lukashenko stayed at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta during his state visit to Indonesia.
