Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto described the visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to Jakarta as a strategic opportunity for the two countries to strengthen their friendship and expand bilateral cooperation.
Speaking during a joint statement with Lukashenko at the Merdeka Palace on Thursday, Prabowo expressed appreciation to the Belarusian leader for returning to Indonesia after his first visit in 2013.
"It is an honor for the Republic of Indonesia, for the Indonesian people, and for me to personally welcome Your Excellency on your second visit to Indonesia. You visited this republic more than 13 years ago, and now you have returned," Prabowo said.
The Indonesian leader also recalled the warm welcome he received during his official visit to Minsk, Belarus, last year. He further emphasized that Indonesia and Belarus have long maintained harmonious relations, providing a strong foundation for expanding their partnership.
“This visit signifies the growing friendship between Indonesia and Belarus,” he said.
Prabowo also underscored Indonesia’s commitment to stepping up bilateral ties and announced plans to reciprocate Lukashenko’s visit to intensify communication between the two governments.
He then expressed hope that the meetings in Jakarta would yield concrete cooperation initiatives across multiple fields, delivering tangible benefits for communities in both countries.
“I am convinced this momentum will further strengthen the Indonesia-Belarus partnership and open avenues for broader cooperation oriented toward concrete results that contribute to the welfare and prosperity of our nations,” the president remarked.
Indonesia and Belarus have witnessed intensified relations over the past year, marked by a series of presidential- and ministerial-level meetings in Minsk and Jakarta.
Following the Prabowo-Lukashenko meeting in July 2025, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto received Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich in Jakarta last December to explore cooperation in agriculture and technology to support food security.
Airlangga later traveled to Minsk in May 2026 to visit companies specializing in heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, and modern agricultural mechanization.
During that trip, he reunited with Karankevich to begin drafting a roadmap to deepen cooperation across sectors. The two met again in Jakarta on June 30 to discuss trade, agriculture, food security, health, and education.
