A beachgoer has issued a warning after being stung by a venomous weever fish while swimming at Għadira Bay.
In a social media post, V Marshall said the fish were hidden beneath the sand and could only be spotted once disturbed.
He explained that after stepping on one, it raised its venomous spines, causing what he described as an intense burning sensation and severe pain.
Marshall thanked the Red Cross first aid team on the beach for assisting him before he was taken to a health clinic, where he received treatment and was prescribed a cream.
He added that he had been advised to seek further medical attention if the area became swollen or increasingly red.
He urged beachgoers, particularly parents with young children, to remain cautious, warning that the fish can cause extremely painful stings when accidentally stepped on.
