CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu City Tigers proved they are legitimate contenders in the 17-under division of the ongoing Sinag Liga Asya (SLA) Junior World Showcase after cruising to a convincing 75-51 victory over visiting Familya DC of the United States on Thursday, July 2, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Tigers improved to 2-0 and climbed to the top of Bracket A, which features six teams.
University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers standout Lawrence Selim paced Cebu City with 19 points, three steals, one rebound, and one assist.
The Tigers showcased their balanced attack, with four other players finishing in double figures. Andrei Sinda added 11 points, while Michael Flandez, Liam Chua, and John Cedrick Sasil chipped in 10 points each.
Rainheart Panaligan scored 15 points for Familya DC, which slipped to a 1-1 record.

Coached by Alan Cabatingan, Cebu City dominated inside, outscoring Familya DC 34-24 in the paint. The Tigers also capitalized on their opponents’ miscues, converting turnovers into a 21-14 scoring advantage.
Cebu City led by as many as 25 points, 65-40, en route to a wire-to-wire victory.
In the other 17-under division game, Husay New Jersey demolished Mighty David-UAE, 73-38. Gabriel Morales and Dylan Guzzardo scored 14 points each for the visiting squad from the United States, while Yuri Dula had 10 points for Mighty David-UAE.
TUMAKBO TEAMS DOMINATE
Homecourt Karis Sports also pulled off a 69-59 victory over Last Shot Dubai, while Tumakbo USA California defeated New York United, 56-42, at the Magnum Sports Complex in the 17-under division.
Amari Cruz Davis led Tumakbo USA California with 10 points, seven rebounds, and one block. Cedric Dela Rosa scored a game-high 16 points for New York United, which fell to 1-1.
In the 19-under division, Tumakbo United tightened its grip on the top spot in Bracket B after improving to 3-0.
Isaac Yuhico erupted for 20 points, along with three rebounds and three steals, to lead Tumakbo United. Mateo Garcia and Jaden Ribac added 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Lebron Vince Natividad scored 15 points for Mighty David-UAE.
In the 23-under division, Alpha 7 seized the early lead in the standings with a 2-0 record after defeating the Western Leyte College (WLC) Mustangs of Ormoc City, 60-45, and Familya DC, 55-52.
OTHER DIVISIONS
The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters are tied for second place in the 23-under standings with a 1-1 record. UC opened with a 61-54 win over New York Ascend before absorbing a 64-59 defeat to the Phenoms.
In the 15-under division, Gilas Montreal Canada remained unbeaten at 3-0 to lead Bracket B, while Clifton Tigers-USA topped Bracket A with a 2-0 record.

Gilas Montreal Canada opened its campaign with a dominant 113-77 victory over Ympact Ballers before beating Las Vegas, 72-58. It then completed a perfect three-game run with a 73-67 win over Fil-QLD Australia.
Clifton Tigers-USA opened its campaign with a 70-21 rout of Young Vikings UAE before edging Homecourt UAE, 55-48.
In the 13-under division, God’s Gift Mountain Resort-Davao and Roces Basketball-UAE shared the top spot in the standings after posting identical 2-0 records.
