Denpasar (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) involved hundreds of teachers in the Sahabat Tunas Forum held in Denpasar, Bali, on Thursday as part of efforts to strengthen child protection in the digital space.
The ministry's Director General of Public Communication and Media, Fifi Aleyda Yahya, said the forum was attended by around 250 teachers in person and about 500 other participants online.
According to Fifi, the role of teachers is no longer limited to teaching subjects such as mathematics, geography, and science, as they are also expected to equip children with the skills needed to face challenges in the digital era.
"The role of teachers is very important because they are now also expected to provide the best guidance to children in facing developments in the digital world," Fifi said, adding that the Sahabat Tunas Forum was created from the belief that child protection in the digital space cannot only be handled by the government alone, but needs the involvement of parents, teachers, and elements of society.
The ministry presented several speakers on the forum, including psychologist Prof Dr Rose Mini, 2026 Miss Indonesian Tourism Karina Maoudy Widodo, and financial consultant Ngurah Mustakawarman, who discussed child development, the threat of digital fraud, and the importance of financial literacy from an early age.
Fifi added that protecting children does not only concern their physical safety, but also the protection of their minds and personal data during the digital era.
The ministry hopes that teachers would gain fresh perspectives and strategies to improve guidance for children and help create a safer and healthier digital ecosystem for Indonesia's younger generation.
