The Kwara State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity over the alleged abduction and murder of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic.
They also launched a manhunt for nine other members of the gang said to be involved in the crime.
The breakthrough followed weeks of investigation by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), who tracked the suspects to identified cult hideouts in Ilorin metropolis during coordinated operations on June 29.
The police identified those arrested as Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, 23, alias “Solar”; Bernard Kayode, 25, alias “KK”; and Owoyemi Bashiru, 27, alias “GDP.”

Police said the suspects were linked to the disappearance of 29-year-old Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, an indigene of Oyo State and a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, who had been declared missing since June 4.
Confirming the arrests in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said investigations revealed that the suspects belonged to a violent cult group allegedly responsible for the victim’s abduction.
She said the suspects confessed during interrogation that the victim was killed after he was abducted.
According to the police spokesperson, investigations further uncovered that the gang consists of 12 members, with nine suspects still at large.
She said tactical operations had been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects, dismantle the criminal network and recover the victim’s body.
“The suspects presently in custody are also assisting investigators with useful information regarding other violent crimes allegedly perpetrated by the group within the Ilorin metropolis,” the statement said.
The command assured residents that investigations were ongoing and vowed that all those found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
