Jakarta (ANTARA) - The governments of Indonesia and Belarus signed several memorandums of understanding to foster deeper ties in health, culture, finance, industry, science, and technology.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced the deals while delivering a joint statement with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.
“The commitment shared by Indonesia and Belarus to strengthening bilateral cooperation was demonstrated today by the signing of a number of cooperation documents by delegations from both countries,” he said.
Prabowo noted the planned cooperation also covers national accreditation systems, financial transaction reporting, and financial services, adding that Indonesia and Belarus have maintained "excellent relations" in the defense sector.
“I hope the cooperation will soon be implemented to deliver concrete benefits for the two countries,” the president remarked.
He highlighted that the signed pacts align with the roadmap launched during his meeting with Lukashenko, serving as a framework for Indonesia and Belarus to expand bilateral ties over the next five years.
The signing ceremony involved several senior officials, including Indonesian Culture Minister Fadli Zon, Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono, and Financial Services Authority (OJK) Commissioner Chair Frederica Widyasari Dewi.
Head of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) Ivan Yustiavandana, National Standardization Agency Head Donny Purnomo, and representatives from other ministries and agencies also attended the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Lukashenko welcomed the concrete efforts to step up the multifaceted partnership between Indonesia and Belarus.
He assured Indonesia of his government’s readiness to forge stronger ties through expanded trade, the establishment of joint ventures, industry localization, and support in healthcare and education for medical workers.
Prabowo received Lukashenko at the palace following his visit to Belarus in July 2023. The Jakarta meeting marked the Belarusian president’s return to Indonesia after 13 years.
