Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Belarus strengthen their collaboration in the health sector, focusing on medical education and pharmaceutical development.
On Thursday, the two states deepened their bilateral relations by signing several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) covering several aspects, ranging from health, cultural affairs, to science and technology, and financial services.
"Every country has something to teach, and every health system has room for improvement. We agreed to discuss two main topics today: medical education and cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector," Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono said here on Thursday.
He opined that both countries have significant potential to complement each other.
Harbuwono said that Indonesia is exploring fellowship programs focused on cardiology, oncology, neurology and stroke, urology, nephrology, and maternal and child health to improve the medical workforce's capability.
As part of the initiative, his administration will send delegations to Belarus to learn from the European nation's medical training programs. On the other hand, Indonesia invites Belarusian doctors to provide training for local physicians.
The government also prioritizes the pharmaceutical sector, seeking to expand access and distribution of medical devices through potential collaboration between Belarus' company, Belpharmprom, and national manufacturers, he pointed out.
On the same occasion, Belarusian Health Minister Aliaksandr Khajayeu responded positively to Indonesia's proposed initiatives, saying that both countries already have aligned regulatory standards, particularly on pharmaceutical products.
Khajayeu added that stronger communication and coordination between the two countries' health systems would facilitate pharmaceutical registration and other licensing processes.
Indonesia and Belarus have prepared an Operational Road Map for 2026–2030, outlining the measurable steps to pursue the bilateral cooperation programs. It is expected that the initiatives can contribute to strengthening public health resilience in both countries.
