Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital has begun verifying 14 digital services owned by Apple to ensure their features comply with the child protection standards set out in the TUNAS Regulation.
"Fourteen Apple product services and features have been submitted to us," Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid said in a statement on Thursday.
This information was also conveyed to Apple Managing Director of Asia Pacific Mike Orgill during a meeting with Minister Hafid on Wednesday (July 1).
The 14 services verified cover various products within the Apple ecosystem, including iMessage, Safari, Siri, Apple Music, Apple TV, and other digital services.
According to Hafid, each digital service will be evaluated separately based on its characteristics, features, and potential risks to children, allowing for a more comprehensive verification process.
"Child protection in the digital space poses a challenge. That is why we have adopted a risk-based approach to safeguard Indonesian children while continuing to support technological innovation and investment, provided companies comply with Indonesian laws and prioritize children's best interests," she noted.
With around 70 million children under the age of 16 and 85 million under 18, Indonesia continues to strengthen the governance of digital platforms through regulations that prioritize child protection.
Responding to the initiative, Apple Asia Pacific Managing Director Mike Orgill said child protection is one of the company's top global priorities.
He said Apple has developed a range of digital safety features that will be further enhanced through operating system updates later this year.
The updates include expanded parental controls, improved detection of harmful content such as nudity, violence, and graphic content, as well as enhancements to the Child Account system, which enables parents to monitor their children's digital activities.
"We believe child protection is a top priority. We truly appreciate the steps taken by the Indonesian government to strengthen child protection in the digital space. We are also ready to discuss any remaining questions during the evaluation process," he said.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital aims to complete its verification of Apple's submitted documents within approximately one month.
The findings will serve as the basis for classifying the risk level of each service and ensuring that all Apple services operating in Indonesia comply with the country's digital child protection requirements.
Through this mechanism, the government expects the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Implementation for Child Protection (PP TUNAS) to strengthen online child safety while providing regulatory certainty for technology companies operating in Indonesia.
