Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian government aims to provide internet access to 16,557 educational institutions in 2026, nearly doubling its 2025 target of 8,265 schools as part of efforts to accelerate digital learning nationwide.
Muhammad Qodari, head of the Government Communications Agency (Bakom), said the expansion of internet connectivity is intended to support the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education's Digital Learning Programme.
"In terms of internet connectivity to support the Digital Learning Programme, a number of 8,265 schools were targeted to receive internet access in 2025. For 2026, the government plans to expand the coverage to 16,557 educational institutions," Qodari said at a press conference at Bakom headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday.
He mentioned around 77 percent of Indonesian educational institutions currently have internet access, while the remaining 23 percent remain a priority for network expansion, particularly in disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost regions.
According to Qodari, expanding internet connectivity is a strategic step toward ensuring students and teachers across the country have equal opportunities to benefit from technology-based learning.

Qodari explained integrating those digital services is intended to make education more accessible, streamlined, and efficient for students, teachers, schools, and other stakeholders.
He added the government's digital education platforms have already seen widespread adoption.
The Student Space (Ruang Murid) platform records around 1.3 million monthly active users, while more than 280,000 schools use the School Space (Ruang Sekolah)—also known as the Education Report Card (Rapor Pendidikan)—to support data-driven school management and improve the quality of teaching and learning.
