Community officials will begin patrolling Malta’s beaches from this weekend as part of a new initiative aimed at improving public safety during the busy summer season.
The announcement was made by Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield, who said the patrols will be introduced as more people head to the coast in the coming weeks.
In a post on social media, Bedingfield said the initiative is intended to help ensure beachgoers can enjoy the summer safely.
“The rules and security are not there to bother people, but to ensure their safety,” the minister said.
Further details about where the patrols will be deployed or how they will operate have not yet been announced.
