A Married at First Sight UK cast member has been arrested on suspicion of rape, according to BBC News.
In a statement to BBC News, the Metropolitan Police said: “On Thursday, 18 June, Met officers arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of rape. This relates to an ongoing investigation, being led by the Met Police. He has since been bailed while enquiries remain ongoing.”
The man has not been named and neither has the alleged victim.
The news comes after a BBC News investigation found two women alleged they were raped by partners they met on the hit show. A third claimed she experienced a non-consensual sex act. Channel 4 has launched its own investigation.
Today’s news returns the MAFS UK scandal to the fore.
In May, Channel 4 opened its investigation and removed all MAFS episodes from its streaming service after the allegations came out. Lawyers for MAFS producer CPL Productions told BBC News they disputed elements of the claims at the time.
Channel 4 CEO Priya Dogra said it commissioned an external review in April. This came after Channel 4 was “presented with serious allegations of wrongdoing against a small number of past contributors” and was initially asked to probe internally, which found that “when concerns related to contributor welfare were raised through existing welfare and production protocols, prompt and appropriate action was taken, based on the information available at the time.”
Channel 4 said it expects the reviews to report in the coming months and will share a summary of findings and recommendations “at the appropriate time.” Dogra apologized in late May to the women who made “very troubling” rape allegations.
MAFS is one of Channel 4’s biggest hits and has been airing for more than a decade. The show sees contestants meet at the altar for the first time before heading out on honeymoon and subsequently deciding whether they want to remain together.
