
Drivers in Portimão are being advised to plan ahead this weekend, as extensive road closures and traffic restrictions will be introduced around Praia da Rocha during the Afro Nation Portugal festival.
The measures, announced by the PSP police force, are designed to ensure the safety of festivalgoers and other road users during the three-day event, it says.
Roads closed to traffic
The following roads will be completely closed during the designated times:
Rua do Miradouro
Rua do Sol
Rua dos Oceanos
Rua Dom Martinho Castelo Branco
Rua Vista Mar (southbound to northbound direction)
Estrada da Rocha (from the roundabout towards Praia da Rocha)
Restricted access
Traffic on Avenida Rio Arade will be restricted, with access limited to:
accredited festival vehicles;
suppliers;
guests staying at Hotel da Marina.
Closure times
The restrictions will be in force during the following periods:
Friday, July 3: 8pm to midnight
Saturday, July 4: Midnight to 4am, and 8pm to midnight
Sunday, July 5: Midnight to 4am, and 8pm to midnight
Monday, July 6: Midnight to 4am
The PSP has thanked the public for its cooperation and urged motorists to follow traffic management measures and police instructions throughout the festival.
Afro Nation Portugal returns to Praia da Rocha from July 3 to 5, bringing thousands of music fans to Portimão for what is billed as the world’s largest Afrobeats festival.
