Two people were safely rescued from Ta’ Maria Cave in Ġnejna this evening following a major emergency operation involving the Civil Protection Department (CPD) and the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM).
CPD rescuers from Fire Stations 3, 5 and 7 were dispatched after the two individuals became stranded inside the cave and required assistance to return to safety.
Upon arriving at the scene, three CPD rescue swimmers entered the water and swam into the cave to reach the casualties, while two CPD rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) were deployed to support the operation.
With sea conditions described as very rough, the rescue was carried out in close coordination with the AFM, which deployed a rescue helicopter to airlift both individuals to safety.
The operation was completed successfully, with both people rescued without incident.
Following the operation, the Civil Protection Department thanked the Armed Forces of Malta, the Malta Police Force, and Mater Dei Hospital’s Emergency Department for their assistance and cooperation throughout the rescue.
