How 'Love Island USA' Addressed Producer James Barker's Death in Season 8 Episode

James Barker’s loved ones are sharing more about his death.

After the Love Island USA producer’s suffered a fatal medical emergency on location in Fiji on June 12, his family gave further insight into the tragic situation.

“Our bright light, James Barker, died from an unpreventable and tragic sudden death on June 12th, 2026,” they wrote in a GoFundMe statement. “Like everyone who loved him, we’re still struggling to comprehend a world without him.”

“There was no time to prepare for this,” the message continued, “and in the wake of his death, his loved ones are now navigating both profound grief and immediate financial responsibilities.”

The fundraiser asked for donations to help Barker’s loved ones, including longtime partner Adam Roth, noting that the reality TV producer was an incredibly thoughtful and generous person himself who “gave everything he had to artists from all art forms.”

While the nature of what caused the 40-year-old’s death has not been shared, ITV America and Peacock initially confirmed his passing in a June 15 statement, saying he experienced an “unexpected medical emergency” while filming in Fiji.

“James’ unimaginable loss has been deeply felt across not just the entire Love Island USA production, but throughout all of ITV and Peacock,” the statement said. “He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent, and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.”

The networks added, “We extend our heartfelt condolences to James’ partner, family, friends, and colleagues.”

Love Island USA also paid homage to Barker—who first started with the show in 2020—airing a photo montage of him on the June 16 episode.

“For James,” a message read at the end of the episode. “We love you.”

The tribute was set to the song "Next to Me" by Rüfüs Du Sol, and include the lyrics, "When the lights come down, I wanna feel you standing next to me" and "Ever since I first looked in your eyes / I said, 'You’re the one.'"

Roth shared a heartfelt remembrance as well, touching on his partner’s impact on his community and the entertainment industry.

"James was the absolute light and love of my life,” Roth told People in a June 15 statement. “He brought joy and brilliance to everything he touched.”

The couple had been together for over four years and lived together in Brooklyn. And while Roth was devastated their time was “cut way too short,” he was grateful for the moments they did share.

"James was such a champion of the community of young music artists he was able to introduce to audiences on Love Island,” the 48-year-old continued. "We met at a Billie Eilish concert, and live music was a constant in our relationship."

"I am so proud of the work he did and that he was surrounded by such an amazing team,” he added. “His loss is unimaginable."
