There are some clothing pieces so iconic that they never leave our memory, and GAP's striped sweater from 2000 is definitely high on our list.
Under the direction of acclaimed designer Zac Posen, who serves as GAP's creative director, comes The Happy Stripe Capsule: a modern take for 2026 on the iconic Y2K print for the brand's GapStudio line. And it's definitely generating a lot of buzz online!
Most versatile piece: GapStudio Happy Stripe Sheer Tank Top
Most likely to sell out: GapStudio Happy Stripe Sheer Maxi Dress
ICYMI, back in 2000 as part of their "Holiday Is Here" collection came a chunky turtleneck sweater that is still living rent-free in our heads. In the late '90s, GAP had released a few other versions of the stripes, but there's something about those chunky horizontal stripes from 2000 that really stuck with us.
And celebs have already gotten in on the trend, like Chase Infiniti who stunned in a custom striped GapStudio dress at the 2026 BET Awards.
The mesh recreation with the knit print definitely feels fresh and fun for summer, but we're also not-so-secretly hoping for a fall/winter true knit variation to come out in a few months.
