Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has formulated three primary strategies to expand electricity access across remote villages, in a bid to push the national electrification ratio toward 100 percent by 2029.
The target aligns with Presidential Regulation Number 117 of 2025 concerning the 2026 Government Work Plan, according to Head of the Government Communications Agency, Muhammad Qodari.
"The strategy to achieve this is carried out through three approaches," Qodari stated here on Thursday (July 2).
The first approach focuses on extending the existing power grid operated by state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) to nearby communities that remain without electricity access.
The second strategy involves developing standalone mini-grids powered by locally available renewable energy sources to serve communities in frontier regions and remote islands.
The third approach provides individual solar home systems equipped with battery storage for households in dispersed areas where grid connections are considered economically unviable.
Qodari said the drive is guided by the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministerial Decree on the 2025–2029 Roadmap for the Rural Electrification Program and the New Electricity Installation Assistance (BPBL) Program.
"The roadmap is designed to ensure electricity reaches every location that still lacks access to PLN's power network," he explained.
Once electricity infrastructure becomes available, the government will also provide new electricity installation assistance to low-income households through the BPBL program.
According to PLN data, Indonesia's national electrification ratio has reached 99.83 percent of households.
Meanwhile, the village electrification ratio has climbed to 99.97 percent, with 98.56 percent of all electricity access nationwide supplied directly through PLN's network.
