
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with a violent clash at a wedding ceremony that left one person dead and three others injured in Gara Village, Kurmi Ward, Burra District of Ningi Local Government Area.
The command also confirmed the arrest of three additional suspects over a separate incident in Kirfi Local Government Area, where a naming ceremony turned violent, resulting in the death of a 27-year-old man.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the first incident followed a report received at the Burra Divisional Police Headquarters on June 29, 2026.
Habib said investigations revealed that the violence occurred on June 26 during a wedding ceremony organised by a 25-year-old resident of Gara Village, identified as Bilya Yahaya.
He explained that a disagreement among some youths at the event escalated into a physical confrontation, leaving four persons with varying degrees of injuries.
“The victims were rushed to a private clinic in Kada for medical attention. Three of them were treated and discharged, while one of the victims, Abubakar Usamatu, 19, of Tashan Marke Hamlet, was referred to the General Hospital, Ningi, where he was later certified dead,” the statement read.
The police spokesman said detectives from the Burra Division immediately launched an investigation, traced the suspects and arrested nine persons believed to be involved in the incident.
He added that the suspects were assisting investigators and would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed a comprehensive investigation into the incident and urged community and religious leaders to promote peace and tolerance during public gatherings to prevent similar occurrences.
In a related development, the command said it arrested three suspects over another violent clash that occurred during a naming ceremony in Dosi Hamlet, Bara Village, Kirfi Local Government Area.

Habib, in a separate statement issued on Wednesday, said the case was reported to the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters after an 80-year-old resident of Dosi Hamlet lodged a complaint over an incident that occurred on June 25.
According to him, some youths from Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet and Dosi Hamlet engaged in a confrontation during the naming ceremony.
He said a 27-year-old resident of Dosi Hamlet, Sani Abacha Alhaji Jabbi, sustained severe machete injuries during the clash.
“The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe, for treatment, where he was later certified dead by a medical doctor,” Habib stated.
He added that police operatives visited the scene and documented the incident before launching an investigation.
The spokesman disclosed that three suspects identified as Kano Alhaji Malam, 18, Ali Alhaji Malam, 17, and Shehu Alhaji Malam, 16, were traced and arrested in connection with the killing.
Habib said the deceased had already been buried in accordance with Islamic rites before the suspects were apprehended.
He noted that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for detailed investigation and prosecution.
While condemning both incidents, the statement stressed that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu has issued a strong warning against the use of violence to resolve disputes during social gatherings.
He appealed to community and youth leaders to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence in the interest of public safety.
