MANILA, Philippines — Generally fair weather with localized rain showers are expected to prevail over the country this weekend as former Tropical Storm Henry (international name Maysak) moves further away, according to the state weather bureau.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Obet Badrina said during its 5 a.m. weather advisory on Friday that Henry is no longer enhancing the southwest monsoon, or habagat, and affecting the western parts of Southern Luzon and Visayas region.
“And because Henry has moved away, the southwest monsoon has also weakened. That is why you can observe there is now less cloud covering, particularly over the western parts of Southern Luzon and Visayas,” Badrina reported.

Despite Henry’s exit, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may still experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

According to Badrina, the typhoon with international name “Bavi” being monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) still has no effect on the country as it moves, although it is likely to enter by Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
“Currently, there is a typhoon — internationally named Bavi — located more than 3,400 kilometers away from the country. We expect it to continue moving. It will not have any impact on the country this coming weekend,” Badrina said.

He further noted that the storm has a high chance of developing into a super typhoon before or once it enters the country.
Inday is also expected to intensify the southwest monsoon, bringing heavy rains on Wednesday next week, July 8, according to Badrina. /das
