CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Police seized more than P204,000 worth of allegedly illegally sourced lumber and arrested two men in separate anti-illegal logging operations in Pola and Bongabong towns in this province on Thursday, July 2, the Police Regional Office (PRO) Mimaropa said.
The bigger haul came at 3:10 p.m. in Barangay Batuhan, Pola, where police arrested a man allegedly transporting about 4,000 board feet of sawn coconut lumber worth approximately P200,000 without the required permits.
Authorities said the chainsaw used was properly registered, but the recovered lumber had no documents authorizing its cutting or transport. The lumber and two chainsaws were confiscated, while the Philippine Coconut Authority was asked to verify and scale the seized wood before it is turned over for safekeeping.
