
MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla requested the National Police Commission (Napolcom) to extend the active service of Calabarzon police chief Brig. Gen. Hansel Marantan for one year.
“This request is being made in the interest of the service to ensure continuity in the execution of critical and ongoing high-impact operations currently being spearheaded by General Marantan,” Remulla said in a letter to Napolcom.

The letter did not indicate when the request was made.

Marantan was set to reach the mandatory Philippine National Police (PNP) retirement age of 56 this coming July 10.
However, the Republic Act No. 6975 or the DILG Act states: “In case of any officer with the rank of [police brigadier general, police major general or police lieutenant general], [Napolcom] may allow his retention in the service for an unextendable period of one year.” /das
