Mother charged with manslaughter after death of 3-year-old

A 33-year-old mum has been charged with manslaughter following the death of her 3-year-old.

In a statement on Friday, Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe said she had been charged in relation to an ongoing investigation into the toddler's death on New Year's Day in Auckland's Devonport.

Police were called to an address on Kerr Street about 11pm on 1 January where the child was found dead.

"This is an extremely tragic case and as the matter is now before the courts, we will not be making any further comment."

The woman appeared in North Shore District Court on Friday morning and would next appear in Auckland High Court on 15 July.
