
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy around 6,000 police officers to secure the Senate and surrounding areas as the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte begins Monday, July 6.
PNP public information chief Col. Allen Rae Co said in a press briefing in Camp Crame on Friday that a comprehensive security plan has already been finalized.

“A comprehensive security plan is already in place. Intelligence monitoring is ongoing to monitor any threats that there might be,” Co said, adding that the PNP will conduct a final coordinating conference

This afternoon, he added, the PNP will be conducting a final coordinating conference among all units for the final preparation.

Co said the Senate has not requested additional police personnel beyond those already assigned by the Police Security and Protection Group.
He also noted that, as of Friday, the PNP had not received any information on groups seeking permits to stage rallies near the Senate during the start of the impeachment proceedings.

“As of now, we are still on heightened alert. We will see by Monday if we will be upgrading our alert level,” Co added.
