Medan (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) underscored the importance of stronger collaboration between the central government and regional administrations to develop resilient cities capable of meeting future development challenges.
"It is essential to strengthen synergy between the central and local governments in building resilient, modern and productive cities that can respond to future development challenges," Yudhoyono said after closing the 18th National Working Meeting of the Association of Indonesian Municipal Governments (APEKSI) in Medan, the capital of North Sumatra Province, on Thursday.
He said such collaboration has become increasingly important as cities across Indonesia face growing challenges, including rapid urbanization and rising demand for basic infrastructure.
Yudhoyono said infrastructure development and regional connectivity must continue to be strengthened to create new economic growth centers that reflect the unique potential of each region.
According to him, successful urban development cannot be achieved by a single stakeholder but requires close cooperation among the central government, regional administrations, ministries, state agencies, academia, the private sector, and local communities.
"Urban development must be carried out collectively, from planning and implementation to on-the-ground supervision. Strong collaboration will help maximize development outcomes," he said.
Yudhoyono expressed hope that APEKSI would continue serving as a platform for municipal governments across Indonesia to exchange knowledge, share best practices and strengthen cooperation in improving governance and urban development.
He added that the central government would continue to enhance coordination among ministries and agencies on spatial planning, land affairs, physical infrastructure development, and balanced regional development to ensure that Indonesia's urban development becomes more sustainable and of higher quality.
