Jakarta (ANTARA) - Nickel Industries, in partnership with Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), held the written selection for the Nickel Industries Scholarship 2026 on Thursday at MTs Al-Khairaat in Makarti Jaya Village, Bahodopi.
A total of 26 students from Bahodopi and Bungku Pesisir took part in the selection, marking the next step toward earning a scholarship to pursue higher education, according to a statement received here on Friday.
The written test is part of the scholarship selection process for local senior high school and vocational school graduates from communities surrounding Nickel Industries' operations.
Since its launch in 2024, the program has supported 20 local students in accessing higher education while helping prepare the next generation of skilled professionals from Morowali.
During the selection, participants completed a series of assessments to measure their academic ability, learning potential, and readiness for university studies.
The process was conducted by Hasanuddin University to ensure a fair, transparent, and objective selection.
Head of Sustainability at Nickel Industries, Muchtazar, said the scholarship reflects the company's long-term commitment to investing in people.
"Education opens opportunities that can change lives. Through this scholarship, we want to help more young people from our surrounding communities pursue higher education and build a better future for themselves, their families, and Morowali," he said.
The Scholarship provides full tuition support, accommodation, monthly living allowances, and academic assistance throughout the recipients' studies, allowing students to focus on their education without financial concerns.
Nurul Ichsani, a representative of the Hasanuddin University Independent Admission Selection Team, welcomed the enthusiasm shown by the participants.
"We are pleased to see the students' enthusiasm throughout the selection process. We hope this program identifies talented young people with strong academic potential and the motivation to continue learning. Hasanuddin University is committed to ensuring the selection is conducted fairly and professionally," Ichsani said.
Beyond financial support, the scholarship also encourages students to develop leadership skills, strengthen their character, and prepare themselves to contribute to the development of their communities after graduation.
Muchtazar added that the company hopes the scholarship will create lasting opportunities for local youth.
"We hope this program helps more young people realize their ambitions and, one day, return with the knowledge and experience to contribute to the future of Morowali," he said.
Through this initiative, the company continues to expand access to higher education for local youth while investing in the development of future leaders who will contribute to the sustainable growth of Morowali and Indonesia.
