The Association of Facility Management Practitioners of Nigeria (AFMPN) has intensified its engagement with key Lagos State government institutions in a strategic push to strengthen infrastructure governance, improve public asset management, and advance professional facility management as a critical driver of sustainable economic development in Nigeria.
In a series of high-level courtesy visits led by the Association’s President, Dr. Olumide Aina, AFMPN engaged the Lagos State Infrastructure and Asset Management Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL), Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), and the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA).
Aina said the engagements form part of AFMPN’s broader strategy to deepen collaboration between government institutions and facility management professionals, while promoting international best practices in infrastructure management, regulatory compliance, public safety, environmental sustainability, and capacity development.
According to him, at the heart of the discussions was the growing recognition that effective infrastructure management extends beyond the delivery of physical assets to their long-term operation, maintenance, regulation and sustainability.
Speaking during the engagements, Aina said Nigeria’s infrastructure ambitions can only be achieved through stronger institutional collaboration and the integration of professional facility management into public sector governance.
“Facility Management is no longer a support function; it is a strategic discipline that improves asset performance, enhances service delivery, and ensures sustainability throughout the life cycle of public infrastructure. We are pleased that government agencies are increasingly recognising this role and are willing to collaborate with AFMPN in building institutional capacity,” he said.
During discussions with LASIMRA, both organisations explored collaboration around infrastructure regulation, protection of telecommunications assets, underground utilities, right-of-way management, infrastructure auditing and asset stewardship.
At LASURA, discussions focused on institutionalising facility management within public sector organisations through professional training, advocacy, staff membership and knowledge sharing.
